Unerased recovers deleted files from the SD cards and USB drives you plug into your Android phone. It is published by ByteHaven Studios LLC. This policy describes what the app does with your information. It is short because the app does very little with it.
The short version
Unerased does not collect any data. It has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no telemetry. It cannot send your files anywhere, because it has no permission to use the internet.
The drives you scan
Unerased reads the SD card or USB drive you choose, through Android's USB host interface, only after you grant Android's permission prompt for that drive. It opens the drive read-only: the app never writes to the drive you are recovering from.
What it finds on the drive (file names, sizes and the file contents it decodes for previews) is kept in the phone's memory while the app is open. Preview files that need a temporary copy (for example PDFs) go to the app's private cache and are deleted by the app or by Android. Nothing found on your drive is uploaded, logged or kept after you close the scan.
Files you recover
Recovered files are saved only where you choose, through Android's standard file picker, and never onto the drive being recovered. Unerased does not ask for broad access to your phone's storage ("all files access"); it can only write into the folder you pick.
Network access
Unerased makes no network requests.
- The app does not declare the
INTERNETpermission. An app without that permission cannot open a network connection at all. This is enforced by Android, not by our good intentions. - The only permission it declares is
com.android.vending.BILLING, which exists so Google Play can process the one-time Pro purchase.
Purchases
The one-time Unerased Pro unlock is processed by Google Play Billing. Your payment details are handled entirely by Google and are never seen by Unerased or by ByteHaven Studios. The app receives only a yes/no answer about whether the unlock is owned. Google's own privacy policy governs that transaction.
What the app stores on your phone
Your theme and language choices, and a count of free saves used, are kept in the app's
private storage. No other app can read them, and uninstalling the app deletes them. The
app is excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup (allowBackup="false").
When data leaves your device
Only when you send it. The Feedback button opens your own email app with a message to support@bytehavenstudios.com, containing the app version in the subject line. Nothing is sent unless you press send, and you can see everything before you do. Share opens Android's share sheet with a link to the app's store page.
Children
Unerased is a general-purpose utility. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. If you email us, we keep that conversation only to answer you, and you can ask us to delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at https://unerased.bytehavenstudios.com/privacy/
with a new effective date.
